CARE – Households to receive support to become more circular
IVL is participating in the new EU project CARE, which will support 100 European households in becoming more climate-smart and circular. The project focuses on two areas – food and fashion – where households will get inspiration and help to make more sustainable choices in everyday life.
The CARE pilot studies will be implemented in five regions that are part of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), in both urban and rural areas. In Sweden, around 20 households in Gothenburg will be selected in cooperation with the City of Gothenburg.
Solutions that work in practice
The focus on clothing and food is because these account for a large share of household consumption-related emissions, but also because there are many relatively simple improvements that households can make. Using clothes for longer has previously been evaluated as one of the most effective ways to reduce environmental impact. The challenge is to find solutions that work in practice, and therefore the project will work closely with the households, and be based on the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives.
The households in the study will be located in:
- Gothenburg in Sweden
- Tammerfors in Finland
- Berlin in Germany
- Asker in Norway
- Lääne-Harju in Estonia
The project has an interdisciplinary approach. The effectiveness of the pilot projects in reducing climate and environmental impacts will be calculated using life cycle analysis.
